Director of Clinical Operations

SUMMARY 

This position is responsible for providing strategic leadership and direction of the overall clinical operations for the Practice.  The Director will work closely with the physician leadership and practice leadership to continuously improve the patient experience and refine the department strategic plan.  The Director is responsible for creating an operating plan that executes the organizational plan. This requires coordination with practice leadership to execute the plan.  This position has direct management responsibility for the clinical managers.  

DUTIES & RESPONSIBILITIES 
  • Lead and optimize clinical processes
  • Partner with physicians on clinical practices and protocols into operational improvements specific to a given doctor, location or clinic process.
  • Leads and mentors clinical managers
  • Leads and supports the professional development of clinical managers and their teams
  •  Controls and steadily improves the entire department’s use of systems, processes and resources to better serve the patients, physicians and the practice.
  • Analyzes operations to improve systems and processes that improve performance
  • Visible in clinics to support and assess operations
  • Supports integration during mergers and acquisition; and the opening of new offices
  • Collaborates with the practice senior leadership
  • Maintain strict confidentiality with PHI, understands and adheres to practice policies and procedures
  • Performs other duties as assigned.

QUALIFICATIONS
  • Bachelor's degree in Healthcare Administration, Business Administration, Finance, or a related field
  • Minimum of 5 years of experience in healthcare management, with demonstrated progression of responsibilities. Ophthalmology or Retina experience is preferred.
  • In-depth knowledge of healthcare practices, and regulatory requirements. Retina experience preferred.
  • Strong leadership and team management skills, with the ability to motivate and develop a high-performing team
  • Excellent analytical skills and the ability to interpret data
  • Proficiency with medical records software
  • Strong communication and interpersonal skills, with the ability to collaborate effectively with internal and external stakeholders
  • Preferred Certifications: COA, COT, OSC

ESSENTIAL JOB FUNCTIONS
  • Prolonged sitting, standing, bending, stooping, and stretching.  
  • Position requires frequent driving and travel to clinic sites in NC, as well as off-site conferences and meetings. Approximately 75% travel.
  • Must have the ability to assist with patient mobility including pushing, pulling or lifting patients in and out of chairs or stools. 
  • Frequent lifting of up to 5 lbs., occasional lifting of up to 25 lbs.  
  • Requires normal range of hearing and eyesight to perform daily tasks. 
  • Must be able to operate a computer keyboard, mouse, phone, e-mail, copy/fax machine.
